    BLM Piceance-East Douglas Wild Horse Adoption Event in Grand Junction

    Grand Junction, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will hold a wild horse adoption event on Nov. 4 – 5, offering approximately 60 wild horses gathered from the Piceance-East Douglas Herd Management Area (HMA). “Our partners at the Piceance Mustangs have been invaluable at helping manage wild horses and burros and helping with adoptions,” said Tyrell Turner, Northwest District Wild Horse & Burro Specialist. “We are excited to hold this event in collaboration with our partners and to put horses into good homes.” The adoption will be held at the Mesa County Fairgrounds, 2785 U.S. Highway 50 in Grand Junction.     30 Animals Including 26 Horses were Seized from Fremont County Property

    From the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO): On October 25th, 2022, Deputies with the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office assisted by the Colorado Humane Society, the Denver Dumb Animals league, The Colorado Department of Agriculture, Code 3 Associates, and the state brand inspector executed a search warrant in the seizure of 26 horses, 1 dog, 1 pot belly pig and two exotic birds from a property in the 500 block of 1st Street in Penrose, Colorado.  This seizure was made after a report of animal neglect/abuse was made to the Colorado Humane/Denver Dumb Friends League.  Based on the recommendation of two on-scene veterinarians, the pot-belly pig was euthanized at a local facility. …

    The study could one day help horses and even humans suffering from asthma utilizing biologic therapy. Asthma usually ends a horse’s athletic career, but stem cell therapy could be a promising treatment option in the future. Heaves is a disease that can leave a horse struggling to breathe. It can end athletic careers and even render a pleasure horse unsuitable for riding. Commonly known today as equine asthma, it’s irreversible and brought on by repeated exposure to dust and molds. Ontario Veterinary College researcher Doctor Bienzle has a long history of primary and collaborative work studying asthma in horses. Her most recent contributions include working with a group of researchers in Slovenia.     Microchips are extremely important for keeping your horses safe. Many animals reunite with their owner’s thanks to their chips. A microchip is a great way to guarantee the identity and facilitate fair competition. The American Horse Council and AHC Foundation are happy to support this through two different programs.
